Week in theme park history:-August 11, 2016, Disney’s first Latina princess, Elana of Avalor, makes her debut at the Magic Kingdom-August 12, 1965, Disneyland welcomes its 50 MILLIONTH guest-August 12, 2019, NBA experience opens at Disney Springs-August 13, 1954, excavation of the future site of Disneyland begins with removal of walnut and orange trees, Mickey and friends inform Patrick Begora that he’s being evicted from his home. -August 13, 2017, The Great Movie Ride and Ellen’s Energy Adventure permanently close at the end of the day-August 15,1843, Tivoli Gardens in Copenhagen opens. This amusement park was a major influence on Walt’s ideas for Disneyland-August 15, 2006, Merlin challenges young guests at WDW’s MK to pull the sword from the stone for the last time-August 16, 1955, Dumbo flies at Disneyland for the first time-August 17,1981, WEDWAY People Mover opens at Houston International Airport, the first time a Disney ride system is used outside of the parks.
